Back At It: O’Kanos Begins Follow Up

Oak Honest Recording artist Derek O’Kanos recently released his first EP, On the Sleeve (OTS), which was recorded at Robot Dog Studio (RDS) located in Williston, VT.

Robot Dog Studio is a second home to a number of artists from a diverse range of musical genres. Their adaptability lent itself quite well to the chameleon-like tracks of OTS. “If On the Sleeve wasn’t a good enough indicator, recording a second release with RDS should make it clear that they’re doing something special, they just get it and I love working with them,” says O’Kanos.

So, the stage is set and the players are at the ready. If it’s the same stage and the same players, this begs the question; can we expect anything different?

The answer is yes… and no.

“Spoken Roads will cover a similar amount of sonic territory to it’s predecessor but from a slightly different position on the musical spectrum.”

On the Sleeve was a glimpse into the O’Kanos catalog, stretching back over the last twelve years. This next EP, Spoken Roads is also a five song offering, and will provide another look into this catalog. In this way the two EP’s are quite similar. Is this where their similarities end? Not exactly.

It has been stated before that O’Kanos operates in what is nearly a musical ‘No Man’s Land’, blurring the lines between rock, alternative, folk, country, punk, pop, and blues. OTS was ‘exhibit A’ and O’Kanos’s next EP will be ‘exhibit B’. Spoken Roads will cover a similar amount of sonic territory to it’s predecessor but from a slightly different position on the musical spectrum.

Listeners can expect Spoken Roads to be the unexpected: more pop, more folk, and much darker. With recording currently underway, release is scheduled for sometime in 2021, a formal release date will be announced.
