No Rest For The Independent: OHR Celebrates 3 Weeks of New Music
We at Oak Honest Records had to take a step back to acknowledge and celebrate the success of our roster! When you’re an independent collective of artists, it’s an all hands on deck situation! Not one, or two, but three of our family members stepped up to contribute to our ever-growing catalog. A catalog that has grown to over 100 songs in total! Covering rock, metal, folk, punk, funk, Americana, indie, and comedy: it’s a wide range of sound and we made it together! This month was no exception as we once again embraced our differences and spread our roots into various scenes!
THE KICK OFF: DC WOLVES AND SHARP OBJECT
On Feb. 3rd we began our onslaught of music releases with our resident heavy rockers DC Wolves. They teamed up with duo Sharp Object of western Massachusetts and brought us ‘Warm Hands, Feral Tongues’. This split EP featured two tracks from each artist, with all four being the heaviest material released under the OHR banner to date. DC Wolves provided their signature anthemic riffs on their half, which consisted of I Am Atomic and Giver of Life.
DC Wolves joined the label in 2022 and has been featured in a number of live events and showcases. This was their first release for the label and the band have confirmed that they have set aside time to work on new material in 2023.
THE MOMENTUM BUILDS: THE COSMIC VULTURES
One week later on Feb. 10th, The Cosmic Vultures released their new single Hexagon. ‘Time will watch us bleed,” said the song’s refrain. It was another welcomed addition from the Boston based band; intriguing, dark, and funky.
This was a follow up the the band’s previous single Psychotherapy, which was released in late 2022. The Cosmic Vultures have been on a tear lately, having been nominated for Artist of the Year by the New England Music Awards, in addition to gigging and regularly releasing music. The band’s front man Derek Smith also released new music in late 2022 to rave reviews and the Vultures creative forces have shown no signs of slowing!
THIRD TIME’S THE CHARM: LISA LAWRENCE
Closing out this incredible run was our newest family member Lisa Lawrence. Although Lisa is our most recent signee, we have been friends and fans of hers for a long time. She dropped her latest offering on Feb. 17th which was a single called ‘I Can’t Let You’. In addition to her wonderful, powerful voice, Lisa was also at the helm behind the console on this project! Lawrence is a gifted songwriter who has quickly developed her chops on the board. Her signature blend of cow-punk, folk-rock, and alt-country made a wonderful addition to our catalog and rumor has it that more will be to come!
Our artists work hard to present themselves to the world! They aren’t manufactured productions – they are real people! We believe in them. Do yourself a favor and check out this incredible music!
Respect,
OHR
