The Red Idle Rejects have put the finishing touches on their upcoming release, and first for Oak Honest Records, Ink and Nicotine. This album will be well received of long-time fans of the Red Idle sound, but it also offers a look into singer-songwriter Steve Bowling’s Appalachian roots. While the Rejects are based in Cincinnati, the heart of this music can be found in Clay County, Kentucky.
Ink and Nicotine examines the waning of the coal industry and the onset of the opioid epidemic in the area. A trilogy of tunes dive into the coal companies relationship with workers and natural resources, the conditions that lead to the rise of the opioid epidemic, and reflections of what life in Kentucky once was.
The Rejects pair these rural themes with sounds of bonafide Americana and rock and roll stylings for good measure. Traditionalists and more alternative listeners will all find plenty to chew on in this strong pack of songs that are potent and free from filler. A release date will be announced in the coming weeks. This is a powerful release that you will not want to miss!
